Sight Fishing Casco Bay Maine
Captain Eric Wallace's focus and reputation was built on guiding the flats, bringing over 25 years of experience as a saltwater guide from Florida Keys Backcountry to the unique Maine Striped Bass fisheries surrounding Portland Maine's Casco Bay, Scarborough Marsh, Saco Bay and Southern Maine.
If you are looking to experience sight fishing for Striped Bass it is important to remember, like all technical flats fishing, it's a team effort between Angler and Guide. Years of experience and time on the water can be the difference maker. Reach out to Captain Eric to discuss tides and dates. If he is booked, he will be glad to connect you with a Guide that he trusts to work hard and give you a great day on the water. Portland Maine Casco Bay When tides and sun match up with our cooler summer water temps, sight fishing in the Portland, Maine area can be outstanding. Ideally situated on the Northern Terminus of the legendary annual migration of Striped Bass along the Atlantic coast. Casco Bay and the Portland area is proving to be one of the more consistent midsummer fisheries for Striped Bass north of Cape Cod and arguably one of the better kept secrets in East Coast saltwater fly and light tackle fishing. The Flats Bait fish move into the area's rivers for spawning. Many of the Stripers that follow the bait fish north will move off the river mouths and onto the flats and estuaries. It is here you will find an incredibly unique and productive summer Striper fishery. One that is ideal for the shallow-water sight fishing enthusiasts who enjoys casting a fly on a sunny, clear water sandy flat or chasing v-wakes on a mud flat in a foot of water. Water Temps Cooler ocean temperatures and larger tides are two of the unique attributes that make such a midsummer fishery active. But what makes it special is the food that the Stripers can find on the shallows - crabs, shrimps, baby lobsters, add in small fin fish in a water temperature that is still in the Striped Bass active feeding comfort zone - all has the making of a fun, technical shallow water fishery. Light Tackle Skinny water is not just for the fly angler. Light tackle anglers will enjoy working a soft plastic with a spin rod along the shoreline structure and fishing surface plugs to active feeding fish. In the skinny, light tackle anglers can enjoy the thrill of chasing bass in less than two feet of water with grace, results and explosive eats. Maine 2024
