South of Portland Maine has some great options for the Sight Fishing Fly Angler, when the tide, water temps, & sun angle match up, the area has the making for producing some of the best Sight-Fishing for Striped Bass found anywhere north of Cape Cod For the past 20 plus years Capt Eric Wallace has been guiding the Scarborough Marsh and Saco Bay Area it's truly one of his favorite places to fish!! It's also 5 minutes from his house so when conditions match up, it's a good chance he will be found here. The Marsh Several creeks feed 3500 acre Scarborough Marsh, that then mixes with the tides that flows in and out of Saco Bay. Providing essential striper habitat, the unique topography of a marsh offers the fly anglers a diversity that is hard to find in a striper fishery with perfect summer water temps. Tides and Sun dictate the days we fish the Marsh and it often makes for a great 1/2 day trip. Also the Marsh is a great higher tide evening trip for the Light Tackle Angler, pick up some fresh seafood at the tavern at the boat ramp and enjoy fishing thru the awesome sunset on the Marsh, also Capt Eric offers dockside pick up for guests of the BlackPoint Inn. Saco River | Biddeford Pool Camp Ellis & Biddeford Pools area offers some great sight fishing that extends the variety found in the lower Saco River. bright sand and near open Ocean water temps make for one of Capt Eric favorite places to match up good incoming tide on a bright sunny day. Saco River can be the fishiest place in the area, and with that comes crowds, Over the years we have found the rhythm that works well for staying out of the crowded mix, so when tides and weather match up this can be a highlight trip for stripers on the flats.
