Portland | Casco Bay | Striped Bass Fishing
Portland Maine | Striped Bass Fishing with Coastal Fly Angler, Sight Fishing on Casco Bay. Ideally situated on the northern terminus of the legendary annual migration of Striped Bass along the Atlantic Coast. Casco Bay is proving to be one of the most consistent fisheries for Striped Bass north of Cape Cod, and arguably one of the better kept secrets in East Coast Saltwater Fly and Light Tackle Fishing.
The southernmost end of Casco Bay touches the vibrant city of Portland Maine, and the mouths of the Maine's Presumpscot and Royal Rivers. These river mouths attract spawning bait fish, and the Striped Bass follow. After the bait fish move deeper into the rivers for spawning, the Stripers move off the river mouths and onto the flats and estuaries of Casco Bay. It's here that you'll find an incredibly unique and productive Striper fishery, one that is ideal for shallow-water sight fishing enthusiasts, who enjoys casting the fly on clear water sandy flat. Captain Eric Wallace has Been offering guided sight fishing trips for striped bass in Maine for over 20 years.
Light Tackle anglers will enjoy working a soft plastic with a spin rod along the shoreline structure and fishing surface plugs to active feeding fish. If you are in the search for a Fishing Guide or Saltwater Fly or Light Tackle Charters contact us for 2020 Maine updated reports and open dates.

Our guide leans a bit forward as he stops poling the shallow-draft flats boat—yes, the same kind of craft you see in the Florida Keys, the Bahamas, Mexico, and Belize—and points the long pole a little to port.
“Fish at 10 o’clock,” he says in a low voice. just loud enough to be heard over the freshening breeze, “about 40 feet.”
Fly-angling legend Lefty Kreh and I are in Casco Bay in the Atlantic Ocean just off Yarmouth, Maine, and the quarry is not bonefish, tarpon, or permit, but striped bass. Yarmouth is above Portland and below Freeport, and our guide, Eric Wallace, often launches here in summer when the stripers are in the shallow flats where angler can sight-fish to them.
